Reiki and its Origins

Reiki Ideals

Just for today, I will let go of anger

Just for today, I will let go of worry

Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings

Just for today, I will do my work honestly

Just for today, I will be kind to my neighbor and every living thing

Part of my path and studies brought me to Reiki many years ago. Reiki (Pronounced ray-key) originated from Japanese words. Its basic meaning is universal energy or life energy. It is a system of enlightenment and a hands-on healing developed in the early 1900s by Sensei Mikao Usui (pictured above) in Japan.

How Does Reiki Work?

Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In doing so, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.

Reiki Can Never Cause Harm

Because Reiki is guided by God-consciousness, it can never do harm. It always knows what a person needs and will adjust itself to create the effect that is appropriate for them. One never needs to worry about whether to give Reiki or not. It is always helpful.

In addition, because the practitioner does not direct the healing and does not decide what to work on, or what to heal, the practitioner is not in danger of taking on the karma of the client. Because the practitioner is not doing the healing, it is also much easier for the ego to stay out of the way and allow the presence of God to clearly shine through.

Giving Reiki to a third party (without permission)

I have had many clients request reiki for a loved one. I always suggest the person being sent the reiki is aware and accepting of the distance treatment. But in cases where that is not possible, I will ask the individual's "Higher Self" if they are willing to accept the Reiki. If a person would not normally accept this kind of treatment, the Reiki being sent will not harm, nor affect them.

When I first started on my journey with Reiki, there was not an awful lot of information out there for one with a curious mind who wanted to know how it all worked. Everything was shrouded in secrecy and sometimes confusion. Thankfully, there is more information and help available for anyone looking to begin or enhance their reiki journey.  Here are some helpful websites to get you started:
