          In Reginsm\u00e1l<\/em> and V\u00f6lsunga saga<\/em>, Andvari is a dwarf who lives beneath the waters, able to take the shape of a pike. He hoards gold taken from the river, including a powerful ring. Loki forces him to surrender his treasure \u2014 and in doing so, Andvari curses it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          That curse unfolds catastrophically:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
