Week Ahead – Monday December 18th through Sunday December 24th

Happy Sunday everyone! We’re a week away from Christmas and just under a week till the Winter Solstice/Yule. Life can get a little crazy around this time of year so make sure you are all taking time to rest and do something for yourselves! The Moon is getting ready for its New lunation later today and will be landing right smack in the centre of the black hole that is at the centre of the Milkyway. So what does this mean? Well its a bit speculative but it may be that this is the time to align with our larger galactic self. The Moon is in Sagittarius, which is the sign of generosity, higher philosophy and the expansion of our belief system. We also have Saturn shifting into serious Capricorn in a couple of days so this could mean the foundation of our lives is about to go through a fundamental shift in regard to our priorities. Ok, without further ado, here’s what the coming week has in store for us.

Monday is our Sagittarius New Moon, but the Moon will be changing signs, moving into Capricorn later in the day. In Sagittarius, we get a plethora of abundance, optimism, and a strong desire to free ourselves from those self-limiting beliefs, situations, people, and old attachments that are keeping us stuck in a rut. It’s a good idea to take time and see where your philosophies don’t measure up to your day to day life. When the New Moon enters Capricorn later this afternoon the energies change a bit. In Capricorn, we become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don’t want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence–even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the face.
Tuesday sees Saturn moving into Capricorn, where it will remain until March 2020. Saturn takes about 28-29 years to come full circle and thus spends on average close to 2-1/2 years in a sign. This move changes the structure of our lives and we will be faced with some serious choices in the coming year. Saturn transits slow life down (or at least, that is how we perceive it) and forces us to live our lives in the present. Although Saturn transits can make life feel like a drudgery (these are often times when our lives seem to move at a snail’s pace and advancements are hard to see), they also give us the opportunity to gain inner strength, to become more responsible for what we do and say, and to cut out waste or excesses in our lives. Basically, what happens is a form of paring or slimming down in the area of life affected by Saturn. We are getting rid of things in our lives that are not working for us in the real world, and focusing on improving and strengthening the things that do serve a useful purpose. Depression can be a byproduct of heavy Saturn transits. However, if we focus our energies on meaningful endeavours without pushing too hard for recognition or support from others, we can fight the inclination towards a gloom-and-doom attitude.
Wednesday brings us a challenging square between Venus and Chiron, where we may find that we are forced to make some adjustments in our relationships or finances. We may find that these areas are not balancing out and coming together as we would want them. That feeling of “cant’ win for losing” could be a familiar one under this transit as we find the more we try, the more we feel we are going round in circles. So, healing in relationships and balancing our finances may seem difficult to obtain as our efforts feel blocked right now. That doesn’t mean you should give up or stop trying though! Venus will also be in a trine with Uranus, where liberation and spontaneity flood into our relationships, resources, finances, and those little pleasures we so enjoy! So this may help balance out the Venus/Chiron square a bit.
Thursday is the Winter Solstice and with these we have fresh energy coming our way for the next 3 months due to the Sun shining on Saturn and the energies still with us from the New Moon. However, we do have to step into a larger role of responsibility in our lives. The Moon will be moving into Aquarius today, which brings us feelings of openness with a sense of inner freedom. Our emotions become more alive and we feel we can express them more freely. What we can’t cope with are limitations being imposed upon us or pressure from others because our main focus is on our inner feelings of independence. We tend to have a sense of emotional coolness or detachment at the personal level, combined with an emphasis on idealism: such is the nature of the cycle we are now entering. We have a tendency to allow ourselves more freedom. We also have the Sun joining the Moon in Capricorn, so Happy Solar Return to all of you lovely Capricorns! Lastly, there is that conjunction between the Sun and Saturn I just mentioned. While Sun transits are usually brief ones, usually lasting about a day, the Sun’s energy acts to signify the issues and conditions surrounding the planet that it is transiting. It’s a good day for tackling projects that require a lot of detail. Just make sure you don’t let yourself get too bogged down in the details or you may end up slowing yourself down even more. Focus on what is important for now and use the day for setting up a plan for your more long-term goals.
Friday is the day that Mercury turns direct. Keep in mind that situations will still feel a bit slow going until Mercury has picked up speed and resumes its normal momentum. Its akin to feeling like we are coming out of a fog in some instances. Remember what I said about paying attention to what was going on during its first trip in Sagittarius? As Mercury moves forward we may start to revisit these situations but with a different perspective than before. Refocusing, readjusting, freedom and independence – these are the things Mercury in Sagittarius will bring.
Saturday starts off with a Void of Course Moon mid-morning that will move into mystical Pisces in the early afternoon. A Pisces Moon can bring about feelings of romance, heightened intuition, mystical and dreamy moods, and an interest in the unknown, religion and all that is magical. We tend to become softer, sentimental and more tender, speaking words of kindness and complimenting those we love. We also tend to have this deeper understanding of the hidden meaning of life, events and things, as well as a more intimate perception of beauty, art, poetry and music. On a negative side, it can be harder to deal with the harsher aspects of reality during these lunar days. We may escape with one more drink, or “check out” in front of the television. It’s easy to coast through the day when you’re dreamy or “lost.” It helps to have some creative focus, in order not to flounder in the sign of the Fishes.
Sunday, Christmas Eve, brings us a square between Jupiter and the North Lunar Node. Jupiter represents our expansive qualities and our abilities to improve ourselves. It is a planet of abundance and seeks insight through knowledge. It is the planet of possibility. In our chart, Jupiter reveals how we express our sense of giving and tolerance and how we go about improving our lives. The North Node represents what we are striving or aiming for in this lifetime. It’s our life lesson, our destiny and our major area of learning. In order to reach our North Node destination, we will have to step out of our comfort zone. When Jupiter and the North Node are in a challenging position it means that our religious, educational and moral values become conflicted with societal expectations. It can be difficult adjusting to social institutions during this time though.
